Photography

Photography was my first love. I got my first camera, a simple plastic box camera, when I was in 6th grade, and I was hooked. As a teenager, I converted an old walk-in freezer in my parents home to my first fully equipped darkroom. I processed my own film, and made my own prints. The good old days!

When it was time for college, I chose Rochester Institute of Technology. At the time, it was the only school in the country that offered a four year degree in photography. I graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Photography. By 1975 I had my own studio, and worked full time as a professional photographer for the next 19 years, doing portrait and wedding photography, as well as some commercial and small product photography.

Toward the end of that 19 year photography career, I started a printing business. I continued doing some photography, but the printing business grew and for the next 17 years demanded most of my attention. After selling the printing business, I found a “fun” job, driving motorcoaches (tour buses) around the country for Hagey Coach, Inc. in Souderton. That job has allowed me to continue to exercise my photography skills primarily through travel photography, something I enjoy immensely.

I embraced digital photography from its earliest beginnings. My first digital camera was an Epson PhotoPC back in 1996 — one of the very first consumer oriented, affordable digital cameras. We’ve come a long way from its “high resolution 640×480″ capabilities, along with its 1 megabyte memory holding 16 photos. Today I’m using high-end Nikon digital single lens reflex systems with lots of optional accessories and lenses available, as well as highly sophisticated software for processing digital photos.
